Re-Chartering of the Geolocation Working Group

Hello All,

A new charter for the W3C Geolocation Working Group was recently approved (http://www.w3.org/2014/04/geo-charter.html) and the group is now re-opened. If your member institution is interested in participating in the efforts outlined in the charter, please notify your W3C Advisory Committee representative to officially join the group. You may do so via http://www.w3.org/2004/01/pp-impl/42891/join.

Please note that after June 2 2014, participants who joined the Working Group under the previous charter but haven't rejoined under the new one will be automatically removed from the list of participants.

As with all other W3C efforts, the bulk of the work will be publicly accessible and constructive feedback from all persons interested in this area (not just those who belong to institutions that are members of the W3C) is welcome.

Two primary deliverables will be an updated version of the DeviceOrientation specification, and a revision of the Geolocation specification based on the new features outlined in the charter. Tim Volodine (Google) and Rich Tibbett (Opera) have graciously agreed to serve as co-editors of the DeviceOrientation specification going forward. Co-editors for the Geolocation specification will be announced soon.

Meeting slots have been requested at the upcoming W3C TPAC at the end of October in Santa Clara. This will be the first F2F meeting of the group under the new charter.

I look forward to working with you all.

-Giri Mandyam, Chair
