Hello Mike,

To answer your question, yes, the recent post by John Schneider 
clarifies the rationale for the current choices of default floating 
point and decimal number representation in the spec. I think only time 
will tell whether use cases where numbers must be converted to and from 
their string representation are more or less important than use cases 
using binary representation. So for the time being I am happy with this 
aspect of the spec, as long as the Data Type Representation Map allows 
us to use an alternative representation when needed.
