RE: Training resource questions for EOWG [was: Eowg meeting]

HI Brent
Sorry to be slow responding. I’m busily working on the links and hope to have the last of them updated on Github today or tomorrow. I’ll let you know as soon as that is completed. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to have Amanda help me as she has been picking up the lion’s share of the work here at Web Key due to my son’s illness. Hopefully the worst is done and I can get more steadily stuck into this important work.

Regards

Hi Vivienne, Hope you had an enjoyable little vacation.

Checking in with you again about the final link edits and short list of minor changes (see previous email below). Do you think this is something that will be ready prior to the meeting on Friday. If so, the planning team can look the list over and decide how to bring it into EO for feedback.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Brent

Hi Vivienne,

Responding to your message... Also hope you are enjoying some much needed R&R.

  * Progress: Good to hear that all links should be updated by next Friday (23rd). We can discuss at meeting and move forward.
  * Removing topics from overview page: For finishing up the revision for the redesign, please leave topics in overview page as they are. Again, we just want to get the links updated, corrected, or removed for the redesign. Once you have that version, Eric/Shawn can post. Then you can continue work for removing topics from overview page and other larger changes that will have to go through full review and approval by EO. (This second part may or may not be finished by CSUN, so we don't want it to hold up just getting the quick link revisions complete for redesign launch)
  * Migrating to 2.0: This is another example of something that can be looked at more carefully to determine best how to update later - not in redesign launch version. Thank you for being okay with leaving it as is for the moment.
  * Headings for 2.1 and Silver: Yes, hold until after redesign launch.
** Again, for EO to look at next Friday, we need a list of any "bigger" changes that were made so that EO can focus on those and give feedback or okay. This list does not need to include links that were updated, links that were removed (because resources are not ready or resources are outdated), or minor wording updates that don't change meaning. What should be in the list is any bigger content changes, the small title changes you made, and if content was moved around. We expect it will be a short list because major changes that you are contemplating should wait until this version is posted.

Please provide the planning team with this list before Wednesday morning (21st) at 8:00am Central (10:00pm AWST) if possible.

*** Also, just to be clear, once we have the revised link draft that we can post for the redesign launch, you can continue with all the bigger edits you are proposing. You don't have to wait until after the official launch to work in the background on the next iteration. :)

Vivienne, you are doing a fantastic job on this resource and we greatly appreciate the time, effort, and professionalism that you are putting into the work. You are a Hero.

Thanks,
Brent

Hi all

Shawn, oh dear, you got here before I had a chance to send this email :(

While I have made good progress updating on Github, neither of us has been able to finish the task of updating the links. I am hoping to spend an hour doing a few more later this afternoon, but it won't be completed. I've had a few complication. Not to excuse tardiness, but I've had my son having cancer surgery last Friday (he is an adult) and recuperating at my house this week which means specialists etc. He is doing fine BTW, but it will probably mean chemo etc. which we find out today. As you can imagine, this has complicated life somewhat, and I've had Amanda busy picking up what I can't get done with Web Key (thank heavens for great staff). And just to make life even more interesting, tomorrow is the Perth Web Accessibility Camp that I coordinate, so it has been rather hectic. I've taken the public email out of this response as I don't want others to see this.

I anticipate that all links will be updated by next Friday in time for the next EOWG meeting. I won't be at this week's meeting as my husband and I are headed down south Friday afternoon for a couple of days of R&R, which is much needed.

I also wanted to comment about removing the number of topics on the overview page. I had previously done that as a sample (on the MS Word document I circulated to you three), and Brent at the time said he liked the cleaner look. I have no trouble at all putting them back in if everyone would prefer. My thinking was making it look tidier, and prompting people to go past the overview page to see the topics. I'm happy to go with whatever you like.

I see that you want the Migrating to WCAG 2.0 topic to stay in, and that is fine. I don't necessarily agree, but am not troubled either way. Perhaps it is just a change of wording needed? Maybe 'Using WCAG 2.0' instead of 'migrating to'. Migrating to, sounds like it’s a new thing, when we are now all looking forward to 2.1 and Silver.

And lastly, do you want me to put in headings for 2.1 and Silver? Jeanne Spellman has slideshows for Silver and I'm sure there is info on 2.1 we can include. However, that might be something we want to add after the new website is live and part of our continual updating.

Vivienne

Hi Vivienne and Amanda,

I hope link updating is going smoothly for you now that you've figured out editing in GitHub.

Reminder that any proposed changes beyond link updating need to go through EOWG.

We were hoping that you could send the list of these today, so that we can prep them for EOWG this week.

Thanks,
~Shawn for Brent and Sharron too

There may be minor changes to the content while you did this (like changing a title or other sentences), if there are, we will need to give a list of those changes to EO so they will be aware of them and see if there are any major concerns - probably won't be. This first phase will be what is updated for the redesign release.

> 4. And of course, the third phase is long term. Whenever there are new resources or updated resources we need to make sure they are added in (or back in) to this resource. Your spreadsheet will be extremely valuable for tracking that.
