Ok, yes, that's how I understood it. But what I don't get is what to do
about editable fields that don't fit any of these types. For example
cE-elements or textareas where the user is asked to input "keywords",
"title" or "Why did you decide to become an artist? Explain in three
paragraphs."

For the last one one would likely just want a regular Enter-key.
