Re: New Publication by the W3C Dataset Exchange WG - Use Cases and Requirements

Hi,

We work on standards in the educational sector and are particularly interested in notion of profiles (https://www.w3.org/TR/dcat-ucr/) which is related to and is a good fit for our work.

However, the level of details in the draft varies from sections to sections. For example, in 6.8.3, profile negotiation [RPFN<https://w3c.github.io/dxwg/ucr/#RPFN>], is rather short. It is unclear the logic for clients and servers to negotiate through to reach an agreed profile.

An example detailed requirement would be like a client being able to discover from or query a server for the ids of its supported profiles. Reciprocally, a server can declare its supported profiles. The actual definitions for the profiles [RPFL<https://w3c.github.io/dxwg/ucr/#RPFL>] can be hosted elsewhere like a registry.

Continuous discovery and negotiation may facilitate long running clients and servers to adapt to new profiles as they become available.
