I abstained yesterday because I think we should only cover archiving if we can do it right, but this is a very complex issue. My opinion is that if we can’t do it right, we should not do it.

 

Christophe is an expert in this field, so I am happy to follow his lead on this.

 

By the way, I don’t think we should in any case recommend that data be dumped using a particular technology like JSON-LD. If we say anything, we should recommend dumps in a format that is appropriate, widely used and can be expected to be supported over a long timespan.

The concrete practice of digital preservation which is attribute identifiers to datasets, prevent bit-rot, monitor for file format obsolescence, manage duplicate copies, etc is rightly out of scope. 
However, IMHO, the requirement that one should be able to dump Web Data and send it to a digital trusted repository is in scope. We should have guidelines that say how to do that, for instance this could go along the lines of "dump your data as JSON-LD and place a reference to the dataset URI the archival institute gives you back".
