Re: Trying to move the DPUB-ARIA issue forward

Ivan,

The ARIA task force is meeting on this today. We are working on an ARIA
extension mechanism that we made updates to from the last meeting. HTML has
put in place similar extension strategies.

Here is the agenda:
https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-pfwg/2015May/0078.html

Here is the revised extension mechanism from the last meeting that will be
taken up today:

We are NOT sitting on this. Members of your team were on our call and knew
we were working on it.

Subject:	Trying to move the DPUB-ARIA issue forward

Janina, Rich, Tzviya, Markus, everybody else,

as you can imagine, some of us had some discussion on this issue during the
AC meeting in Paris. I think we are all also eager to move on with this
issue as soon as possible. We should also consider the time pressure that
the DPUB community has in view of IDPF's plans to move towards an EPUB3.1
version relatively soon.

To facilitate a resolution, I tried to make a (as far as possible,
impartial) write-up of the situation we are in and what the available
solutions are. I have listed 6 different solution paths, I think we should
try to choose one quickly in case my analysis is o.k.

Janina, Rich, I have copied this mail (the text itself is public) to the
dpub-aria mailing list; I am not sure what would be the best additional
mailing list (if any) where you would want to copy this mail to; feel free
to forward this based on your best judgement. I have added Mike and Robin
to this mail on the cc list, who know the HTML community but I have not
copied this to any HTML WG list; I do not think it is my role to get into
the direct PF-HTML Working Group discussions.

It would be good to set up a telco relatively quickly to put an end to this
impasse by finding the best possible consensus. I do not think it is
realistic to have it this week (although I may be available tomorrow,
Friday, afternoon my time in France). Next week I am, unfortunately, at the
WWW2015 Conference in Italy but, if you guys agree on a timing for a call,
I may try to find a quiet place to join in. The week after the DPUB
community gathers in NYC for an IDPF conference, preceded (on Tuesday the
26th) by a F2F meeting of the DPUB IG, ie, that week would probably be out
of a question for a call. I must admit I secretly hope that we can put an
end to this problem soon (maybe by email?), more specifically by the F2F
meeting, but if we do not succeed, then be it.

With that, here is the writeup:

https://github.com/w3c/aria/wiki/On-the-ARIA---DPUB-impasse:-listing-of-the-options

I hope this will help us in moving forward.

Cheers

Ivan
