Multiple renditions can be done without tying so tightly into the container
framework, as epub did. Hadrien had an idea for using collections for
alternative readings that would have kept all the renditions together,
defined by a single package document. I actually preferred that method,
although we couldn't have pulled it off without changes to the core spec and
that working group was already going where it was going.

The content switching part is where things get complicated. There's a
mapping document defined for multiple renditions, but it's no simple task to
produce and has an affinity for epub cfis.

A method for discovering alternative renditions might be more fruitful here,
since it sounds like all PWPs will have a canonical location for finding the
content that epub by nature lacks.
