RE: draft agenda, DPUB IG concall January 6th 2014

Hi Dave,

I can scribe.

+1 on Luc's comments.

Tables: similar issues to tables (keep with caption, avoid breaks) + aligning on char/location within column (beyond right-align, etc.)

Hi Dave,

About design/typography/pagination problems in ebooks, here is my list :
In Reflowable EPUBs

- Horizontal justification of text : a good composition engine, please!

- Hyphenation with proper language dictionary exceptions

- Vertical justification with respect to widows/orphans, titles

- Headers and footers

- Footnotes in popups
In Fixed Layout EPUBs

- Absolute positioning of text at character level

Best regards,
Luc

Hi all,
below is a draft agenda for the coming Monday's IG concall, which will be
held at 16:00 UTC [0] (08:00 PST, 17:00 CET, 11:00 EST, 01:00 Tokyo).

We are looking for a volunteer scribe. If you are willing to do the
minuting, please reply to this email and say so.

Agenda
-------------------------------------------------
- Approval of previous meeting minutes [1]
- Admin issues
- CSS Shapes: review summary & crafting reply [11]
- This weeks focus theme: latinReq (on: Dave et. al.) [9]

For our discussion tomorrow, I'd like to hear what sort of design/typography/pagination problems people are having with ebooks. Some examples from my experience:

A. Drop caps-getting proper alignment across devices, changing fonts, and changing font sizes is nearly impossible.
B. Image sizing, and the related issue of keeping a caption with the image it describes

I thought this might be a useful way to figure out some subjects we need to cover. Of course, you're free to bring up any ideas at all during the call.

Thanks,

Dave
