Device and Sensors WG bi-weekly status

Hi All,

[I will send this type of bi-weekly status in place of a teleconference as needed.]

---+ Weekly GitHub digests

As usual, to get a quick overview of the recent activity on GitHub, see the digest:

https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-device-apis/2017Oct/0027.html

(You'll receive another digest for the past 7 days activity later today.)

---+ Generic Sensors pre-CR Working Drafts published

The following pre-CR Working Drafts were published 18 Oct:

Generic Sensor API	https://www.w3.org/TR/generic-sensor/
Ambient Light Sensor	https://www.w3.org/TR/ambient-light/
Accelerometer https://www.w3.org/TR/accelerometer/
Gyroscope https://www.w3.org/TR/gyroscope/
Magnetometer https://www.w3.org/TR/magnetometer/
Orientation Sensor	https://www.w3.org/TR/orientation-sensor/

Please see the group's roadmap for more information:

These WDs were used as a basis for the wide review that started (see below).

---+ Generic Sensors wide review started

Wide review for the following specifications was started 20 Oct, review open until EOY:

- Generic Sensor API
- Ambient Light Sensor
- Accelerometer
- Gyroscope
- Magnetometer
- Orientation Sensor
- Motion Sensors Explainer (as an informative document)

The group seeks horizontal review from TAG, Security IG, Privacy IG, more specific review from groups responsible for dependencies WebAppSec WG, Web Platform WG, and from groups that have interactions with this work WebVR CG and CCS WG.

Wide review announcement:

https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-review-announce/2017Oct/0009.html

For details, see the wide review tracker:

---+ Selected specs adopted test as you commit policy

The test as you commit policy was adopted by the following specs that have conformant implementation(s): Generic Sensor API, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Orientation Sensor, Vibration API, Battery Status API, HTML Media Capture.

Test as you commit policy:

https://github.com/w3c/testing-how-to/#test-as-you-commit

The policy is adopted in the draft DAS WG charter for all DAS specs at CR and beyond:

https://github.com/w3c/dap-charter/issues/48
https://github.com/w3c/dap-charter/pull/51

---+ Wake Lock API web-platform-tests started

Work started to create web-platform-tests for Wake Lock API. See the meta w-p-t issue for details:

https://github.com/w3c/wake-lock/issues/111

---+ CfC: transition HTML Media Capture to PR

The HTML Media Capture spec is expected to transition to PR, see the CfC and respond by 7 Nov if you have any concerns:

https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-device-apis/2017Oct/0028.html

---+ TPAC sessions of interest

Although the DAS WG decided to not formally meet at TPAC this year, those of you who will be at TPAC next week should consider attending the Device APIs breakout session on Wednesday:

https://www.w3.org/wiki/TPAC/2017/SessionIdeas#Device_APIs_session

We'll discuss current implementation & specification status, meet related participants, and discuss future concepts that may apply to the Device and Sensors Working Group mission.

Thanks,

-Anssi (Device and Sensors WG Chair)
