Short introduction

Hello,

I'm Clarke Stevens from CableLabs and I just joined the DAP WG. CableLabs is a membership organization based in Colorado, USA for cable television providers worldwide. We do research and development for our member companies and are responsible for standardization and other technical initiatives of common interest to cable TV providers. Some work you might recognize are DOCSIS cable modems, OpenCable set-top boxes and active participation in UPnP and DLNA. We are currently very interested in technologies to provide cable services on web-based platforms. Hence our very active involvement in W3C.

To date, we have worked mostly with the Web & TV IG. We have worked with Opera on the discovery API proposal and have a Java Applet implementation. In addition to my work in the Web & TV IG Home Networking TF, I am the moderator for the Web & TV IG Media Pipeline TF. I am also the technical chair of UPnP Forum.

We are most interested in the DAP WG as a vehicle for standardizing a discovery API that is likely to be implemented in commercial browsers.

Thanks,
-Clarke Stevens
