I don't understand this sentence 

> latest reading["timestamp"] is initially set to null, unless the latest reading map caches a previous reading.

It looks like it is missing a definite article, or is misplaced.  Should it be "The latest reading"? Or is this meant to be a piece of JavaScript code?
