Is that an "as well as" or an "alternative" - i.e. can be be mixed?

Is this

"abc""def\"ghi"

a way to write

abc"def"ghi

?

Does it include the usual suspects \n \r etc?

That would be good for avoiding raw newline issues and also line-by-line 
processing.
