Please don't change the component when you comment. (If you get a collision, go
back, reload, then post your comment.)

position-root does what you want but it is not implemented in browsers yet, so
you can't test it. It's not even in a spec yet.

As for specced things not being implemented consistently (offsetTop et al), we
can't do anything in the spec to solve that. The implementations need to be
fixed, and this is the wrong forum for that (file bugs on the relevant browsers
instead).
