People need an account to join the group. We prompt them to log in as part of the join process. If they are already logged in
we don't prompt them.

Yes (just not the same page).

We do say that in the approval announcement. See for instance [1], which says:

  "The following people supported its creation: Christopher Bader, Jeffrey Sonstein, Bev Corwin, JongHo Shin, Shyam S. Agrawal."
