Hi Lars.

Regarding the maxRGB amplifies noise comment, I think it only applies to 
maxRGB mapping of shadows coming out of black, correct? That is the 
region where  amplification occurs (gain greater than 1) while the 
highlight region is where reduction occurs (gain less than 1).   I've 
been mostly focused on the rolling off the highlights and 
display-referred format conversions which I believe should not modify 
black and shadows.
