I have corrected the reference and added an indication that this is also known as 'COLOR.6'.

LB: AFAIK DCI P3 D65/PQ is NOT specifically for a cinema projector. It matches the typical UHDA TV set, thus High dynamic range television. Remove DCI from the name. You can also remove color.6 from the list as that’s a very non-mnemonic, specialty reference. The IMF ref is better.

I am not sure how best to handle this. Lars, can you comment?

LB: Engineers doing color transforms need this info. I for one needed it years ago. Would be convenient to find it in one place, here, with references and white points. And keep all display referred spaces on one tab.

I am not sure what (if any) change should be made.

LB: This applies only to the DCDM X’Y’Z’, where the white point is the encoding point, not the adopted white.
For all other cases, the white point refers to both the encoding white point and the adopted white.
This could be a note for DCDM X’Y’Z’, and it results in this space not being convertible without more metadata, which usually isn’t available or static or applicable for cinema.
We still need to list the space, but with a caveat.
Note; The DCDM X’Y’Z’ white point is for encoding only, not the adopted white. Other metadata is needed to indicate the adopted white.

Agree that 'distribution' is a better term and have changed to use this throughout.

See explanation from Lars' email. I am afraid that I don't (yet) have a clear understanding of PQ - can you explain the intent of this approach?

LB: BBC drove HLG as primarily a scene space. But we need to know how to display it, so thus also a display space flavor of it. In line with 709.
Dolby drove PQ as a distribution space. No compelling reason to have a scene space for PQ.


* Did you mean RP 431-2 instead of EG 431-2 by any chance? RP 431-2 defines a reference projector, whereas EG 431-2 is more of a how-to.

LB: EG 431-2 defines the four different white point flavors of DCI P3.
Seems like we now can remove D55 and D61 as no longer in use.
