RE: Security issues, Android phones, mention of those with cognitive disabilities

Hi Jennie,

I agree the security issue that article describes is one of vulnerability. I am pleased the author referenced people with cognitive disabilities. I agree they are likely to be more susceptible. However, I don’t think the susceptibility is significantly different from what all people (would) experience. Thank you for sharing!

Subject: Security issues, Android phones, mention of those with cognitive disabilities

Hi,
A colleague sent me this article about malware impacting Android phones (https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/12/vulnerability-in-fully-patched-android-phones-under-active-attack-by-bank-thieves/)<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Farstechnica.com%2Finformation-technology%2F2019%2F12%2Fvulnerability-in-fully-patched-android-phones-under-active-attack-by-bank-thieves%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cjohn.rochford%40umassmed.edu%7Cc4ffac8a9adc4555742008d778c8c3e8%7Cee9155fe2da34378a6c44405faf57b2e%7C0%7C0%7C637110675996206126&sdata=Ek9UlHjompliaTCvSCSUUPwX21QabDjMHhatTXmtnw4%3D&reserved=0> because it specifically calls attention to the difficulties some with cognitive disabilities may have when recognizing the “subtle behaviors of apps” when this malware is present.
This in some ways is similar to the vulnerabilities discussion we had at the face to face in January when discussing issues with two factor authentication.
