RE: Update to Understanding doc for Identifying Common Purpose

Hi EA,

We don’t have to include that heading, but it is a place we can link to external resources.

The link you provided is good generally, but this would be the place for something specific to that success criteria. If no-one knows of a good link for that we can remove the section.

Also note that there will be a link to the technique for autocomplete fairly soon, that is in progress here:

Kind regards,

-Alastair

Reading John's 'Understanding Success Criterion 1.3.5: Identify Input Purpose', which has typos corrected and is an easy read, to then link to resources in the Gap Analysis and table 3 that has links to other Success Criteria and editor notes is a bit of a worry from my point of view.

Sorry to ask but do we need 'Related Resources' as the heading says or references which you mention (such as evidence based articles/papers that show forms can cause problems)?

On my wish list would be a few good examples and explaining why they help as has been done in this article
https://www.system-concepts.com/insights/accessibility-cognitive-impairment/ . I know we can't link to other sites but I wonder if we could make our own examples as that would really help those of us who don't code, but need to show people what we mean when we talk about 'Identify Input Purpose'!

Best wishes
E.A.

Subject: Update to Understanding doc for Identifying Common Purpose

Hi everyone,

A cross-reference from the AG group – we had a couple of issues raised in Github about the current understanding doc:
https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/identify-input-purpose.html

JohnF did an update, generally just making it clearer, and including a reference to the personalisation work going on:
https://rawgit.com/w3c/wcag/identify-input-purpose-updates/understanding/21/identify-input-purpose.html

We didn’t have any “References” for further reading, would it make sense to include a link to the gap analysis? E.g.:
https://www.w3.org/TR/coga-gap-analysis/#table3

There will be a CFC/survey for next week.

Kind regards,

-Alastair
