So I ended contacting the Quixey guys via Twitter, and had a very
interesting chat with their CTO; summarizing it, he saw a lot of
advantages in Web apps compared to native apps (not least of it, the
ability to deep-link into them), and that while app stores may indeed
help boost discoverability in some specific cases, it would be at most a
short term advantage.

He didn't have specific suggestions as what could be done to help with
searchability of Web apps in the short term, although he advanced that
componentization (as part of more general characterization of the Web as
a Web of functions [1]) would most certainly play an important role in
that space in the future.

They're also working on stuff that sounds like it could use alignment
with SysApps, but since they haven't announced it yet, we won't know
what that covers till they do.
