Issue Sanitation and Sanity

Hi all,

If you happen to whip up (or even start to whip up) a fix to some issue,
please assign it to yourself as soon as you begin. That way we avoid
someone else duplicating the work. Not that this has happened a lot, but it
did happen today... and, needless to say, I hope, no hard feelings!
