[minutes] Audio WG Teleconference 2013-08-01

Dear all,

Raw minutes of the Audio WG teleconference yesterday (1st of August 2013) are online:
http://www.w3.org/2013/08/01-audio-minutes.html

The topics addressed were:

• Review of action items

The group went through https://www.w3.org/2011/audio/track/actions/open and closed a number of old action items. We will be more diligent in reviewing them at every teleconference from now on.

• Web audio API - Issue to close - https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=17374

Removing empty sections as well as the demos section which is now replaced by a number of better resources on the web. The group agrees we should remove the sections. Olivier will double-check that there is no objection from the spec editor and proceed.

• Web audio API - Issue to close - https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=20681

No consensus and the group did not feel we could make progress without the editor present.

• Web Audio API - Open Issues and bugs
  - https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=17339

We looked at the issue “De-zippering is not defined”. Chris Lowis volunteered to see if the webkit implementation is based on some accepted precedent or reference literature which we could refer to.

The issue of whether we should strictly and mathematically define the waveform types in the oscillatorNode is tricky. We understand that it is not reasonable to put strict mathematical definitions in the spec as a conformance criteria, but we could try and use wording such as "SHOULD" or "ideally". Doug mentioned that SVG had similar issues, and that the lack of precision in the spec led to lack of quality and interoperability in implementations. This issue has been made a priority for LC1.

Two issues here - defining the behaviour for negative values of playbackrate, and how resampling is achieved. While the latter is very tricky, we could at least specify the former. There will be a call for patches for it.

• Next meeting

2013-08-15, same time.

Thanks,
--
Olivier
