I followed up with Freedom Scientific (Brett Lewis on cc). They will support he new IA2 role. Given that they use the xml-roles object attribute there will be minimal impact.  

Please update the IA2 specification to include this role ASAP so that we may update the Core Accessibility API mapping specification. 

I am trying to find cycles to follow up with AI Squared.
