Note that I am at a very early stage of planning for a W3C workshop on conversational agents with a view to open standards for speech or text based customer service agents integrated as part of the web page user experience. There are a range of existing approaches we could compare and contrast. Open standards would encourage tooling, reduce development costs, and avoid dependencies on particular vendors, as well as assisting with machine learning based upon standardised logging formats.
