RE: FW: Announcing 66 finalists in the AI and the News Open Challenge

Paola , according to the site:

Finalists came from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. The proposals emerged from a wide range of organizations including academic institutions, policy centers, major national and local news enterprises, new digital media companies and start-ups…

The pool of reviewers represents a diverse group of experts from the fields of journalism, technology, research and other disciplines. More than half of our reviewers are people of color and about half are women.

The finalists come from around the world and across universities, newsrooms, start-ups and major policy centers. Their projects address a range of topics, but demonstrate a keen interest in making AI work for unique community and cultural contexts, for using multidisciplinary solutions to this multifaceted issue, and more.

You can <https://knightfoundation.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44a06e103b99cf80e07a2eaad&id=199e1db58b&e=b2897bec6c> read all about them on the site of the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative, which led this challenge in coordination with the anchor institutions leading the initiative, the MIT Media Lab and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Winners will be announced next year.

A big thank you to the 500 applicants who submitted their ideas, and shared their concerns about the future of AI and its impact.
