...which is incorrect:

In fact, Contact's support for PNG textures in general and transparency
in particular is really quite bad, despite at least two or three detailed
bug reports in the last three years.  (And if anything, it's getting
worse.)  See this page for details:

Even Cortona--no whiz in spec-compliance, either--is way ahead on this
score.  But the development priorities for both browsers seem to be almost
exclusively centered around whizzy, next-generation, proprietary features
rather than boring stuff like interoperability and adherence to a three-
year-old international standard.  Trying to write good, portable VRML for
the Three Cs is almost as frustrating as trying to write good, portable
HTML 4.0 and CSS code for the Big Two web browsers...
