Defined in that way, I agree with Roberto that it is an elegant way of solving a few problems at the same time.

Ahh, I believe that the parameter production is this one:

   parameter = token "=" ( token / quoted-string )

This allows for arbitrary key-value pairs, of which "ma" is defined.
