which HTML?

How do you tell Tidy which HTML you want: Strict, Basic, XHTML vs. HTML etc.?
Is there a configuration setting that you can use to identify a DTD?
Can you specify your own (more restrictive) DTD?
Sorry to ask but this was not obvious from the site
