[bug] lib version converts α to num entity

Hi,

Given the following input document

  <p>&alpha;</p>

the current library version will convert the fragment to

  <p>&#945;</p>

I first thought -n is now the default, but e.g. &ouml; will not be
converted. Is this behaivour somehow intended? Neither 04 Aug 2000
nor a standalone build from may 2002 behave like this.
